Audiology Service and Calibration Standards.

All Audiology Instruments for testing hearing are manufactured to a ANSI ( American National Standards Institute) standard for hearing test instruments, There are also standards for spirometry and vision test equipment. Some of the standards are listed below. ** See note below

ANSI S 3.6,1996. (Rev 2004) for Audiometers.*see note below
Applies to all types, including Type 1,2,3 and 4.
All related transducers including, earphones, insert phones, bone vibrators and speakers.

ANSI  S4.43-1997
For bone vibrators and oscillators.

ANSI S3.1-1991
ANSI S3.1- 1999 (Rev. 2008)
For ambient noise levels for hearing test enclosures for diagnostic test facilities.

ANSI S3.39-1987( Rev. 2007)
Aural / acoustic immitance and impedance standard.

MANUFACTURER SPECIFICATIONS
For Otoacoustic Emmisions, Auditory Brain Response systems, and Electro diagnostic instruments and accessories.

OSHA
ANSI S3.6-1969 for Audiometers ** see note below
Ambient noise levels for test room environments for Hearing conservation programs per Subchapter 7. General Industry Safety Orders,Group 15. Occupational Noise, Article 105. Control of Noise Exposure

**NOTE: Audiometers used in hearing conservation programs are calibrated to the latest ANSI  standard (2004)or ANSI 1996, Which exceeds the requirements for OSHA compliance. Bio acoustic simulators (such as the OSCAR from Tremetrics and Bio-Betty from Quest technologies) are calibrated to manufactures specifications.

*NOTE: Although the audiometers manufactured today may meet the latest standard, most were designed and built to meet the current  ANSI Standard at that time of design. Most service providers attempt to calibrate all equipment to the latest standard, however if it does not, they should then calibrate to the standard as stated by the manufacturer design specification.

Note:
Medispec calibrates and services all audiology instrumentation to NASED recommendations where possible. These standards exceed the requirements of the manufactures on all audiology instrumentation
