Medispec offer noise survey programs to Companies who are concerned with OSHA compliance and employee safety. Noise surveys take noise measurements throughout an entire plant or section to identify noisy areas. Noise surveys provide very useful information which enables Medispec and the Employer to identify areas where employees are likely to be exposed to harmful levels of noise. Personal dosimetry may be needed for employees who are exposed to machines and equipment which generate harmful levels of noise. Noise surveys are conducted in areas where noise exposure is likely to be hazardous. A noise survey involves measuring noise levels at selected locations throughout an entire plant or sections to identify noisy areas. This is done with a sound level meter (SLM). A "noise map" showing the locations of workers and noisy machines is drawn. Noise level measurements are taken at a suitable number of positions around the area and are marked on the noise map. A noise map can provide very useful information by clearly identifying areas where there are noise hazards. Using the "noise map" we can determine which employees need to have personal noise dosimetry performed on them. Typically in order to reduce costs of personal surveys BWA conducts surveys by " Job description" in areas where personal dosimetry is needed. On completion a full report of all measurements and noise map is produced. Where necessary Medispec will offer suggestions to reduce exposure to employees. It is recommended that noise surveys be repeated on a regular basis (about every 2 years maximum) or if changes to the work place affect noise levels, whether positive or negative changes occur.
